In terms of storage, the trend nowadays is to move everything to the cloud. Keeping your most important files backed up online is probably the most secure thing you can do, and it's easy to synchronize your content across multiple devices.
Dropbox is an online cloud service you can use to backup your content online. Even though most of the magic happens in the browser, you can download and use the app for Windows. The app manifests itself as a folder where you can view everything backed up on your account. Everything you move into this folder will be backed up on your Dropbox account.
Besides the folder, there will be an icon available in the system tray. Here, you can track the sync progress, or create Paper files (Dropbox documents). However, editing these files is done in the browser. For free, you get only 2 GB of storage, which is too few when compared to the 15 GB you get for free on Google Drive. If you want to upgrade, you can pay $9.99 or $16.58 for 2 TB and 3 TB of storage respectively. Of course, there are some bonus features like version history, file recovery, and so on.
The Dropbox for Desktop is useful and, if you are a Dropbox user, you should definitely install it. It helps you integrate your cloud with your PC. For example, you can choose several folders on your PC for backup! However, we wish there was more storage for non-paying users. Dropbox also offers interesting plans for companies.
